Indian states and the restrictions they have imposed due to the omicron variant
The new COVID-19 Omicron variant has caused panic all around the world. Not only have various nations established new travel regulations, but some Indian states have also issued revised travel restrictions. Continue reading to find out which states have imposed travel restrictions in response to the Omicron scare.
1.) New Delhi
The Delhi government imposed RT-PCR tests for all overseas arrivals from "at-risk" countries. Brazil, the United Kingdom, China, South Africa, Mauritius, Hong Kong, Singapore, New Zealand, and Israel are among the nations included. While children under the age of five are exempt from testing, all other travelers must submit samples for Covid-19 testing and wait at the airport until the findings are received. Passengers who test negative are quarantined for 7 days. They must, however, retake the test on the seventh day. If it is negative, they must self-monitor for seven days for symptoms. If the test results are positive, they must isolate themselves and follow the treatment protocol at Lok Nayak Jai Prakash Narayan Hospital.
2.) Maharashtra
The Maharashtra government has advised all overseas visitors to transmit information of their 15-day travel history before boarding a flight to Mumbai or any other mode of transportation to Maharashtra. Passengers from high-risk countries are checked at separate terminals. Institutional quarantine is required, as are further RT-PCR tests. All overseas travelers who have connecting flights must additionally submit to an RT-PCR test. They can only board the connecting flight if the result is negative. Domestic travel is permitted for fully vaccinated travelers or those who have a negative Covid test report received 48 hours before to departure.
3.) Karnataka
All international visitors to Karnataka must have Covid-19 RT-PCR testing. Those who test positive will be admitted to the hospital. Those who test negative must be quarantined at home for seven days. If they do not show any signs of Covid-19, they must have another test on the seventh day. Passengers must pay 3000 to get tested at the airport. The Karnataka government will use the Quarantine App and Tele Medicine to track and treat those who test positive for Covid.
4.) Uttarakhand
The state government of Uttarakhand has stated that all visitors coming in the state would be subjected to mandatory testing. Anyone found to be unwell or positive will be quarantined for 14 days. Officials will perform random testing at the state's boundaries. According to sources, all COVID-19 samples would be transported to the Dehradun government medical institution for genome sequencing.
5.) Kerala
Kerala has announced that travelers travelling from "high risk" countries with Omicron cases would be subjected to a 14-day home quarantine. This applies to those who test negative for Covid-19. Passengers will be tested again on the eighth day of home quarantine; if they test negative, they will be subjected to home quarantine for another seven days. They will be sent to a government hospital for treatment if they test positive.
6.) Andhra Pradesh
To keep records of arrivals from South Africa and neighbouring countries, the state administration has set up support desks at international airports. According to reports, the help centres will monitor travelers for symptoms. Those who test positive will be quarantined, while those who test negative will be allowed to go to their destination under observation.
7.) West Bengal
West Bengal has extended Covid-19 restrictions till December 31 in response to the Omicron variant. The night curfew has also been extended till the end of December, from 11 p.m. to 5 a.m. While essential services remain unaffected, travellers travelling into the state from Dhaka, London, or Singapore must still undergo RT-PCR tests and quarantine, even if the results are negative. Those who test positive will be placed in a quarantine facility. Random shocks, alertness, and a close eye on a passenger's travel history have all been used at Kolkata airport.
As a result, these are some of the states that have implemented tight travel regulations for foreign travelers arriving from other countries.
