After the Liberalization of Economy, India Witnessed a sudden and significant Growth In Hospitality and Tourism Sector in India, which contributes almost 7 per cent to the GDP of India. Now it is considered to be a 'Sunrise Industry', and Hospitality Sector is expected to touch $460 billion by 2028 and even more. After 2000s Indian Tourism witnessed growth in Foreign Visitors also. All these enabled the Indian Hospitality sector to become Seventh largest sector Globally. Now in this Blog, we will explore everything about Hospitality and Tourism Sector in India.

Hospitality defines as a friendly and generous reception and entertainment of Guests, visitors or strangers. Hospitality is a tradition which have been following from ancient times and you will find hospitality in every sphere of of the country. 
At present, India's Hospitality and Tourism Sector is one of the largest service industry. Hospitality Sector of India has Seventh Largest Tourism Economy in the World, that's why it is also known as 'Sunrise Industry'. It is considered as the most profitable industry which creates almost 15 million jobs in the past five years. This sector attracts a major part of Foreign Direct Investment inflow with the most important means of Foreign exchange for the Country.

Lodging in India Includes Hotel categories and as well as Resorts. Hotels in India are divided into two categories Star Hotels and Heritage Hotels, and these divided into sub-categories. The Star category hotels are further divided into 5 star deluxe, 5 star deluxe with alcohol and non alcohol service, 4 star deluxe, 4 star deluxe with alcohol and non alcohol service, 3star, 2 star and 1 star. The Heritage category hotels divided into Heritage Grand, Heritage classic, Heritage palace, Heritage Basic, and all these Heritage hotels also have alcohol and non alcohol services.

There is a one prediction that overall Hotel Industry reach over RS. 1200 billion (but now because of pandemic its not confirmed). This industry in fast growing in previous years and hotel industry is growing about 7 percent per annum according to experts.

In the market it is difficult to track unorganized category because it forms 60-65 percent of total market and organized category forms remaining 30-35 percent of total market.

The organized category is regulated by Govt. authorities and they known for their standardization, Whereas on the another hand unorganized category has lack of supply chain and in quality control.

Organized category includes- fine dining, causal dining and quick service restaurants which almost 80 percent followed by clubs, pubs, lounges, bars, cafes and bakery. It is Predicted that Food and beverage industry will reach RS 5.5 trillion by 2022.

India is a home for one of the largest population an it offers large variety of different cuisines. Food and Beverage sector in India includes large no. of bars, cafes and lounges and also having nightclubs, tea and coffee shops. Apart from tourist places, this sector is rapidly growing in corporate hubs, colleges, universities offer immense variety of foods and drinks.

India's road transport covers almost all tourist destinations from Kashmir to Kanyakumari, and also India has the second largest road network which covers around 4,320,0000 Kilometers. Along with many Government bus facilities and Private Ola, Uber cabs provide quality services to reach from origin to their destination.

Roads proven to be backbone but Indian Railways also the second largest Railways in India. Travelling in railways is always economic, which helps people to easily connect and attract with different travel destinations. Railways is connected with each and every corner of India. The Government of India also running some special, luxurious and world class trains which attracts tourists not from India only but form foreign tourists as well. Maharaja express, Palace on wheels, The Deccan Odyssey, Golden chariot and many more are world class trains. 

Over the past few decades, Airways also contribute much in Tourism in India for both national and international process. Although the all major cities and tourist destinations have their own airport in India and are well developed and connected. All these help in boosting hospitality industry in India.

As per data, this sector contributes about 17 billion revenue, with almost 80,000 jobs across in India. Amusement parks help in to swell up the tourism around the world. Indian govt. also support this sector strongly and taken care of its infrastructure and development. It is been proved as a development is hospitality industry in India. 

Amusement parks and theme parks also boost up the local economy by creating an opportunity for opening up restaurants, retails etc.

In the past few decades, tourism industry has experienced a continuous Growth and this industry becomes the one of the fastest growing economic sectors globally. Travel and Tourism become one of the most important sector in the World economy, accounting of 10% of World's GDP and 320 million jobs Worldwide. This industry is also a key factor for all socio- economic progress, with tourism industry several developments made in  both national and international travel.

Globally, Tourism industry contributed almost $9 billion dollars to Global GDP in 2019. 

The Global Pandemic, has put more than 100 million jobs at risk many in micro, small and medium sized enterprises that includes a high share of Women, who represents 55% of tourism workforce, according to United Nations World Tourism Organization (UNWTO).

However this growth has been halted in 2020 dur to Covid-19 outbreak. With this, all airplanes are on ground, trains halted at its place, hotels and resorts were closed, and whole Travel and Tourism industry gets most affected sector since the virus starts. This pandemic has cut both national and international travel in the first quarter of 2020.


Closing Borders, Travel Ban and Decline of International Tourists

The Covid-19 Spread all round the World. Countries all over the World the World applied Travel ban or Travel restrictions due to coronavirus spread. Travel halted, Airports closures, train closures etc. and nationwide lockdown just on to control coronavirus spread.

After the spread of coronavirus, almost 94% of countries having coronavirus travel restrictions. 

The number of international tourists are remarkably grow throughout the years, in 2017 arrivals total reach 1.3 billion globally, in 2018 its 1.4 billion, and in 2019 its 1.5 billion. But in 2020, with sever impact of Covid19 it gets declined by 22% and then 65% in half 2020.

These all closing borders, Travel ban and decline of international and national tourists only be happened because of coronavirus outbreak.

Firstly, Tourism is the most affected Sector by the Covi-19 pandemic, impacting livelihoods, economies, public sectors in all Continents.

1.) About 100-120 Million Direct Tourism Jobs are at risk due to this Pandemic. 

2.) Export Revenue from Tourism fall by $910 billion to $1.2 trillion in 2020, which is affecting Global GDP by almost 2.5%.

3.) Hotel industry witnessed a severe impact of Covid-19 pandemic and Lockdown. According to reports there is sharp decline in performance indices:

      -55.9% decline in occupancy

      - 74.4% decline in revenue per bed available

4.) Women who make about 54% of tourism workforce and youth generation globally are at risk categories.

5.) There is no Nation which will be unaffected due to Coronavirus.

6.) The sudden fall in tourism sector also cuts off the funding of biodiversity conservation.

7.) Globally 90% of Museums closed and 13% of them never open.

8.) Many International Airline companies become bankrupt.


Priorities for Balancing Tourism Sector and Restart

Enabling Tourism once again is a major task and requires measures ensuring that people are safe and feel safe while travelling globally. There are priority areas to transform tourism:- 

1.) Boost competitiveness and build economic diversification.

2.) Advance innovation and digital transformation is needed in tourism sector.

3.) Coordination and partnerships of Government are needed to restart.

With the lockdown ends around the World, many countries have started to ease border restrictions reopen their countries for international tourists. Like in India, firstly Himachal and Uttarakhand have open their borders for tourists but with some covid-19 measures. Traveler who wish to go abroad, now they can visit as countries are welcoming them back. Countries like Beijing, Moscow, Cairo, Nairobi, Jakarta and other East European countries have resumed their tourism. 

As tourism restarts and countries gradually lift their restrictions in many parts of the World, but health remains the most concerned and priority matter to protect workers, countries, communities and travelers.

By Bus- Lonavala is located on Mumbai- Pune Expressway, which is well connected to the many towns and cities across the Country. Several Government and Private Buses companies providing their AC & NON-AC Deluxe buses, semi Deluxe buses, sleeper buses, ordinary buses. So you can travel anytime. 

By Train- Lonavala has a good connectivity with many places such as Mumbai, Ahmedabad, Gujarat, Delhi etc. You can also visit by train.
